Hali John, Licensed Midwife
Hi, I’m Hali — Licensed Midwife, Doula, Educator, and Mother of Four
I’ve been attending births for over 9 years, and live in Forney, Texas with my husband and our four amazing children. My journey into birth work began, like many, with the story of my own births — each one shaping me in powerful, unexpected ways.
My first birth was what many would call “typical”: a hospital birth with an epidural. I had never met the doctors who attended me, endured multiple cervical exams, had my water broken without consent, was given Pitocin despite being in active labor, and wasn’t “allowed” out of bed. The postpartum period was deeply difficult. I struggled to breastfeed, felt unsupported, and found myself questioning my well-being and ability to care for my baby.

Everything changed with my second birth. I was determined to do things differently — to labor at home, to advocate for myself, and to be an active participant in my own experience. When I arrived at the hospital, they realized I wasn’t going to be their “typical” patient, and sent in a midwife I had never met. Despite that, she stood by me, respected me, and protected my right to birth the way I was designed to. That moment lit a fire in me. I knew then: this is what I’m meant to do — to protect, support, and empower others during birth.
Since then, I’ve experienced a water birth at a birth center (where I later worked), and a home birth that reminded me birth is always humbling and unpredictable. Each birth — both my own and those I’ve attended — has deepened my trust in the process and made me a more compassionate provider.
I began teaching childbirth and lactation education in 2015 and started attending hospital births as a doula the same year. My formal midwifery training began in 2017 at a high-volume birth center under the mentorship of Certified Nurse Midwives. I became a Certified Professional Midwife in February 2020 and received my Texas midwifery license in May 2020.
Since then, I’ve attended over 4 births in homes, hospitals, and birth centers. I believe deeply that birth should happen where you feel safe and supported — and that’s different for every family. Whether you’re planning a home birth, a hospital birth with insurance, or something in between, I’m here to help you feel seen, heard, and honored.
